Когда ставится There is, а когда It is?

There is — есть — There is is always at the beginning of the sentence.  

It is — это. — Sometimes we don’t translate it is.

There is a sofa in the room. — В гостиной есть диван.

It is a comfortable sofa. — Это удобный диван.

There is a book on the table. — На столе книга.

It is an interesting book. — Это интересная книга.

There is a picture on the wall. — На стене есть картина.

It is a beautiful picture. — Это красивая картина.

It is autumn. — Осень.

It is cold. — Холодно.

It is hot in summer.  — Летом жарко.
